So I decided to look around my studio and see if there were any incomplete paintings that could be painted over to reuse a canvas.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eI had some molding paste which I used to cover the previous painting.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThen I began photographing and sketching the bouquet of flowers, making sure I did this no later than 2 days after receiving them, while they were nice and fresh.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eI was so happy with my sketches. I have chosen the ones I loved the best to include in this painting. Then I began to transfer the drawings onto the canvas and started adding texture to them, to give the painting a real 3D effect.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eI then became totally overwhelmed with how I was going to paint into the texturing, how was I going to go about it? I knew it had to be done right.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThese weren't any flowers, they had been given to me as a total surprise for my birthday. They weren't only a huge surprise, but also the best flowers I had ever received because of the size, type and colours. They were sent to me from my Mother. The thing that was so special is that my Mother is old now, and I knew that there wouldn’t be many more years in which she would be able to do this so these became very important to me. I studied videos time and time again, in order to perfect my technique of exactly how I was going to paint this textured painting, as I was trying a totally new style. Then I began painting into the textured flowers, bit by bit, layer by layer. Still not convinced I went off and did something else for a while. On my return I realised that it was totally ok, and actually one of my best paintings to date. It was during a time just before covid, where my Daughter was living overseas, and I couldn’t see her at the time, so just resorted to these photos. But it’s these photos is what kept us alive, and in communication as Mother and Daughter. Shortly after receiving these photos, covid did actually erupt and I ended up having to downsize my living area, as the offices closed and I was unable to continue my well paid job (the 9-5). \u003cbr\u003eIt was all very well downsizing, but then it cut across my creativity, as I no longer had a studio!\u003cbr\u003eI had to climb my way back up again, and eventually got more 9-5 office work and moved into another nice place with a new studio.\u003cbr\u003eThe thing is with this story, is that I decided I would paint this ages ago. So that people who have large spaces can benefit from the sculptured piece of Artwork too. I realized after viewing it, that I actually preferred it large. Eventually had to put the canvas flat on the floor to let it dry for a while to prevent this. I received a beautiful bunch of flowers internationally from my Daughter, who is living in America, and who I became separated from during Covid with all the restrictions. So this bunch of flowers wasn’t just any bunch of flowers, it was a symbolization of our love as Mother and Daughter on this special occasion.\u003cbr\u003eI wanted to bring to life with this painting something that others could possibly relate to. So I set to photographing the flowers from all different angles making sure to do this during the daylight hours while the flowers were still fresh and crisp looking.  Zooming in on some of the more beautiful ones, to be able to blow up and paint later.\u003cbr\u003eThey had the most beautiful intense smell,  The roses in particular were exquisite, especially as they had opened up. I then set about producing a great sketch that could then be used as a recording to then start blowing up the image, making sure to get my scaling right when transferring it from the drawing onto canvas.\u003cbr\u003eBeing a kind hearted and patient artist, I wanted to produce something of aesthetic value and high quality. It took ages to describe onto canvas using my painting skills with a pallet knife to show the petals of the rose, and moving the knife in such a direction to create a real  effect. \u003cbr\u003eDoing this painting I was up against other artists selling their work all over the internet. I was horrified that my hours of work could all go down the toilet in a minute!\u003cbr\u003eI grabbed the canvas off the easel and thickened the texture paste, then began working into the canvas again from the floor. And as a 60yr old having to get down and work from the floor, it was definitely challenging. Realizing that I wasn’t as unfit as I thought ..and that I could still do this, as it had to be done that way, and I couldn’t get up until it was complete.\u003cbr\u003eAnd the thought of having to get down there again, was just not going to happen!\u003cbr\u003eDoing this painting I was up against other artists selling their work all over the internet. So I had to come up with something using the skills I had, but keeping up with modern times and techniques of how to go about the painting.\u003cbr\u003eOnce the sculpting had completed, I had to make sure that I placed the painting away from the doorway, as the thought of someone coming in and stepping on my new creation would just be too much. Taken from the original Renaissance Roses piece. \u003cbr\u003eI made this second piece in the series as the first piece was loved by many.  \u003cbr\u003eStruggling with composition, I finally put together something that I felt was interesting. \u003cbr\u003eI realized while creating this new piece that the scope for continuation in the series was endless. \u003cbr\u003eI had to get the consistency right with the home made texture paste, not too thick and not too thin so it wouldn't run down the canvas. While mixing the paste the smell of glue and slight perfume from the powder used was exciting to say the least. As I was dreaming up how to create this new piece. At one point I got a mouth full of almost metallic tasting powder as I squeezed it in the bowl.
