Multnomah Falls Print on Canvas
A commission done of Multnomah Falls, Oregon.
This is a print of the original. But other originals could be reproduced from this one.
This was a special one, as the customer had one of their first dates there, and wanted the painting to remind them of it...
This was my first waterfall ever painted. During this commission I had to watch a YouTube video of how to go about painting them
over and over until I could do what was being shown.
My biggest barrier while doing this, was my own negativity coming in and telling me that "I wouldn't be able to do it".
I persisted and persisted and continued to study the video until I felt comfortable that I had grasped the know how on how to go about doing this piece of artwork. I was so proud of myself at having achieved my goal of completing this painting. As it was a special one because it really related to the person's life at the time, so it had to be done properly.
Part of the excitement of painting this piece was that it was a place that I would like to visit. So there was a lot of interest around painting it for me, it wasn't just another painting.
When painting the foliage either side of the waterfall I managed to develop an almost abstract way of describing the foliage.
I was filled with total exhilaration once I had done this. As it took the painting from boring traditional into another level.
I had pretty much finished the painting and was really happy with it. The last thing to do was the leaves right in the foreground.
I watched the video and started painting them, and to my horror I thought that I had ruined the painting! I had a break from it for a day and then re studied the video. Then came back and surprised myself totally with the completed result.
In the end the person I was doing the commission for commented on how she loved the leaves, so it was well worth all the hard work gone into painting them.
I showed one of my neighbours the painting shortly after completing it. Her words were "you did THAT"?
At that point I knew the painting was complete, and that I had achieved the success I was after with it.
